Pointe au Pic (La Malbaie):
Rendered in a fresh, assured hand, this 20” × 24” oil captures a Québec winter village perched above the St. Lawrence — houses stacked along the slope, clean snowbanks, a sliver of sea and sky beyond. The composition balances bold, simplified architecture with broad, lively brushstrokes that suggest cold air and crisp light rather than literal detail; small touches of colour (the warm ochre house, deep blue roofs) give the scene a painterly warmth against the cool greys and blues of snow and water.
Born in Baie-St-Paul, Québec, Louis Tremblay is best known for his rural and coastal Quebec scenes — Baie-St-Paul, Kamouraska and the Gaspé Peninsula feature repeatedly in his work. He is a member of the Institut des arts figuratifs (I.A.F.), and his approach — semi-abstracted landscape built from confident brushwork, saturated accents and simplified forms — places him in the tradition of Quebec painters such as René Richard; some gallery biographies note a direct link in training and influence. Tremblay’s paintings are represented in a number of Canadian galleries and private collections and regularly appear on the secondary market.
