Born in Englefield Green, Surrey, England , studied at the Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin (1881-84). He became a founding member of the Toronto Arts Students League (1886), an active member of the ARCA (1890) (Associate Royal Canadian Academy of Art) and the OSA (Ontario Society of Artists, president in 1903). Noted teacher, illustrator, painter and engraver, with works in the Art Gallery of Ontario (
Toronto Harbour, 1889 ) and the National Gallery of Canada.
