The Opeongo River lies within the south side of Algonquin Provincial Park and Opeongo River Provincial Park, except for a small portion around Victoria Lake, Ontario.
Born in Toronto, Palmer studied under John William Beatty and Frederick S. Challener at the Ontario College of Arts. He started exhibiting with the Ontario Society of Artists in 1905, was elected a member in 1909 and was also the OSA secretary for 40 years. In 1915 he was elected as a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. Furthermore, he was a founding member of the Toronto Arts and Letters Club. The artist was also involved with Canadian National Exhibition, curating its Fine Arts Department from 1926 to 1941. Some of Palmer’s favourite painting locations include the Muskokas, Algonquin, Haliburton and Toronto’s Humber Valley.
