Enjoy a world of quiet anticipation with “En attends que tu arrives “ (Waiting for You to Arrive), a luminous canvas by French Canadian painter Philippe Richard. In soft, inviting hues, the garden scene seems to shimmer with expectancy — two Adirondack chairs bathed in gentle light, framed by lush greenery and delicate flowers. The composition draws you in, offering a moment of calm and connection: a place to pause, to imagine, to relax. Perfect for any space seeking a blend of impressionistic warmth and reflective stillness, this painting beautifully balances emotional depth with decorative elegance. At 24” × 30” (34¾” × 40¾” framed) the painting reads beautifully at eye level, offering a focal point that calms a room while hinting at stories of family, neighborhood life and small rituals of waiting and welcome. Provenance from Koyman Galleries and the artist’s strong local reputation in Quebec make this an appealing, affordable acquisition for collectors who love contemporary Canadian art.

Philippe Richard (b. 1947, L’Assomption, Quebec) is a Quebec-based painter and musician whose work draws directly from his surroundings — the river, the church, his neighbourhood and family life — as well as from his travels to places like Greece. He began painting as a child, studied drawing at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal and later earned a bachelor’s degree in education from UQAM. Since the early 1980s Richard has exhibited widely across Quebec, contributed to community art projects, and placed works in public and private collections (including holdings associated with the Ville de L’Assomption and regional institutions). A respected local figure, he has supported cultural initiatives in his town (a pedestrian bridge in L’Assomption now bears the joint name “passerelle Van Dun – Richard”), and he has donated work to fundraising and restoration projects such as the Chapelle Bonsecours. Richard’s paintings are narrative and evocative: modest domestic scenes and local landscapes rendered with affection and an eye for the everyday poetry of place.
