Title ” Winter Woods on Huisman Lane 2008 ”
Image size 13 7/8″ x 16 1/4″ ( 26 1/4″ x 28 1/2″ framed ) ………$595.00 Canadian
This medium-format pastel captures a small stand of trees beside Huisman Lane in the hush of winter. Kozowyk renders the scene with a disciplined, tactile use of pastel: layered strokes build subtle tonal shifts in the snow and bark, while spare accents suggest the last low light of afternoon. The composition balances open ground and dense verticals, guiding the eye into the quiet interior of the woods.
Patricia (Pat) Kozowyk
Patricia Kozowyk is a Canadian artist whose work reflects a lifelong connection to the southern Ontario landscape. Working in pastel, oil, and mixed media, she draws inspiration from the woods, fields, and rural roads that have shaped her sense of place, capturing the quiet changes of light, season, and memory.
A graduate of McMaster University’s Art and Art History program (1977), Kozowyk has exhibited widely across Canada and internationally in Scotland, Japan, the United States, and Chile. She has also curated exhibitions for the Burlington Art Centre, Hamilton Artists’ Inc., the Carnegie Gallery, and the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, and has taught at the Dundas Valley School of Art, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, and Mohawk College.
In 1994, Kozowyk and fellow artist Catharine Gibbon were jointly awarded Hamilton’s Woman of the Year in the Arts for their work on the environmental art project On the Edge. Her large pastel Maple is part of the Art Gallery of Hamilton’s permanent collection, with additional works formerly held by the Canada Council Art Bank.
Rooted in observation and memory, Kozowyk’s art invites viewers to pause within the landscape—to see the familiar with renewed stillness and care.
