Léo Ayotte was born in Sainte-Flore, Quebec, in 1909 and is best described as a self-taught artist. He moved to Montreal in 1938, later residing at Saint-Christopher Street which became his studio for over 3 decades. Ayotte became one of Quebec’s highly regarded and influential artist in his day, mentoring the likes of Paul Tex Lecor. The town of Shawinigan has honoured this great artist by naming the Léo-Ayotte Exhibition Centre after him.
