Rebry’s landscapes would often use partial objects in the foreground, such as, sections of tree branches and/or tree trunks. This provides a receding and dramatic landscape, drawing the viewer into the depths of the work. Although not new to the world of art and photography, it was a technique Rebry used often and indeed used well.

Quebec painter Gaston Rebry studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts Menin, from 1952 to 1953 in his home country of Belgium. Latter immigrating to Canada, living in Quebec, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts from 1954 to 1955. Rebry’s early works were mostly of small villages and the occasional portrait. However, like many other Canadian artist, Rebry had some influence by the Group of Seven. He also credits the works of fellow Quebec artist such as Marc-Aurèle Fortin and Léo Ayotte. Using his outstanding technical skill with inspiration of the country side around Quebec’s Maurice region, he started producing many delightful landscape paintings and is well known for his fall and winter scenes of the surrounding area. He resided most of his life in Saint Boniface, Quebec and was a member of the Institut des arts figuratifs (I.A.F.). On January 5^th 2007 Gaston Rebry passed away due to pneumonia in the town of Shawinigan.
