Dietz Edzard was a prominent German-born painter who spent the majority of his career in Paris, becoming a leading figure in the mid-century “School of Paris”. Known for his atmospheric, post-impressionist scenes of Parisian social life, his work is held in major institutional collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Gallery of Art(Washington, D.C.)

Framing: Housed in its original French-built gallery frame, consistent with the high-end custom framing favoured by major Parisian dealers of the era.
Gallery Label: Galerie Cardo, 61 Avenue Kléber, Paris (Inventory #555). Retains the original exhibition label from this prestigious Parisian gallery located near the Arc de Triomphe.
Stretcher Stamp: The Paris American Art Co., 2 Rue Bonaparte. Stamped with the legendary supply mark from the heart of the Left Bank art district. The telephone exchange (DANton 09.03) dates this frame to the peak period of 1939–1960.
Artist Signature: Hand-signed “D. Edzard” directly onto the wooden stretcher bar, a rare primary indicator of the artist’s personal handling.
Handwritten Title: “Promenade de dimanche” (Sunday Stroll) inscribed on the reverse of the raw linen in the artist’s characteristic lyrical script.
