Nuages is a striking example of Tatossian’s signature style, where bold, textured strokes and luminous colour transform a simple sky into an atmosphere alive with movement. The painting captures the artist’s ability to elevate nature’s fleeting moments, offering depth, energy, and a sense of shifting light that draws the viewer in. Both expressive and serene, it’s a powerful work that showcases why Tatossian remains one of Canada’s most compelling modern landscape painters.

Armand Tatossian (1948–2012) was a celebrated Canadian painter whose rich, expressive landscapes and city scenes capture the colour and rhythm of Quebec life. Born in Alexandria, Egypt and raised in Montreal, he came from a family of artists and received extensive training in Europe, studying in Italy and later in Paris under Jean Carzou. These experiences shaped his bold, textured style, marked by confident brushwork and luminous colour. In 1973 he became the youngest artist ever elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, affirming his early mastery. Throughout his career, Tatossian painted en plein air, depicting snow-covered villages, lively streets, and atmospheric skies with a modern, energetic touch. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in major public collections, securing his legacy as an important voice in contemporary Canadian painting.
