Subject ” Violin Player
Signed Amede Godro
Size 24″ ………$995.00 Canadian

This hand-carved violin player by Amédée Gaudreau, signed Amédé Godro, is a wonderful example of Quebec folk art—not only for its expressive character but also for its exceptional size. Most Gaudreau carvings and similar Quebec folk figures range from small tabletop pieces to mid-sized works, making this substantially larger carving far more striking and uncommon. After closing his store in 1973, Gaudreau devoted himself fully to sculpture, and this piece reflects that mature period of craftsmanship: bold, detailed, and full of presence, Gaudreau’s works rarely appear at this scale, making this an outstanding opportunity to acquire a standout example of his art.

Amédée Gaudreau was a Quebec folk-art sculptor, best known for his expressive hand-carved wooden figures signed Amédé Godro. Raised in Saint-Damase-de-L’Islet, he spent early years working in forestry and farming before operating a small store. That store closed permanently in 1973, at which point he turned to wood carving full-time. His sculptures—rooted in rural life and traditional craftsmanship—were exhibited in 1983 at Place Bonaventure in Montréal and remain valued today as authentic examples of Quebec’s art populaire.
